The Mereen-Johnson Power Table is a feed-assist material handling table that helps operators load lumber into your rip saw — reducing operator fatigue, improving feed consistency, and protecting throughput across long production shifts. Like every chain-driven machine on a rip line, the Power Table relies on consistent power table lubrication to maintain smooth chain motion and prevent premature wear.
This guide walks through the complete Power Table lubrication program — chain oiling intervals, recommended oils for different ambient temperature ranges, and best practices for getting full service life out of the chain.

Preventive Maintenance: Getting Started
Before putting the Power Table into regular service, walk through these two setup steps:
- Lightly oil the entire chain. The machine has been properly lubricated at the Mereen-Johnson assembly floor before shipping, but a light chain oiling on installation ensures all surfaces are protected from the first cycle forward. Do not regrease motor bearings.
- Set up a lubrication schedule using the schedule included in your machine manual as the basis for a written program your maintenance team can follow.
Chain Oiling Interval
Oil the Power Table chain every 400 hours of running time. Keep the chain clean — debris and accumulated sawdust on the chain shortens service life and creates feed inconsistencies that affect downstream rip saw performance.
A light-weight oil applied to the chain is the correct lubrication approach. Heavy grease isn’t appropriate for the chain — it traps debris, increases drag, and accelerates wear rather than preventing it.
Recommended Oils by Ambient Temperature
The correct oil specification depends on the ambient air temperature at your facility. Use the appropriate chart below.
Ambient Air Temperature +5°F to +77°F
| Manufacturer | Product |
| Gulf Oil Company | Gulf EP S60 |
| Chevron Oil Company | Non-Leaded Gear Compound 150 |
| American Oil Company | Spartan EP 150 |
| Mobil Oil Company | Mobilgear 629 |
| Shell Oil Company | Omala Oil 100 |
| Texaco Oil Company | Meropa 150 |
Ambient Air Temperature +32°F to +104°F
| Manufacturer | Product |
| Gulf Oil Company | Gulf EP S100 |
| Chevron Oil Company | Non-Leaded Gear Compound 220 |
| American Oil Company | Spartan EP 220 |
| Mobil Oil Company | Mobilgear 630 |
| Shell Oil Company | Omala Oil 220 |
| Texaco Oil Company | Meropa 220 |
Facilities with significant seasonal temperature swings — particularly unheated buildings in northern climates — may benefit from running the lighter spec in winter and the heavier spec in summer. Why Power Table Lubrication Matters to Your Rip Line
The Power Table sits at the front of the rip line and directly affects how lumber gets fed into the rip saw. Consistent lubrication on the Power Table chain protects three things:
- Feed consistency. A worn or under-lubricated chain creates inconsistent motion that translates into uneven lumber feeding at the rip saw — which then shows up as cut quality variation
- Operator productivity. The Power Table exists to reduce operator effort. A dragging chain undermines that benefit and tires operators faster
- Component life. Chain wear accelerates rapidly once lubrication is missed for extended periods. A disciplined 400-hour oiling schedule extends chain life significantly compared to running until problems appear
